We collect and process your personal information for a number of purposes, including:
Maintaining your personal details (e.g. your name, photograph, and preferred contact details), including ensuring effective communications with you.
Recording information about your expressed interests in careers, causes, or activities relevant to Effective Altruism, in order to connect you with suitable opportunities and events.

Managing society alumni relations and fundraising.
Our primary legal basis for processing your personal information is our legitimate interests, namely managing our community, supporting participants, and tailoring opportunities. Where the information we record could reveal philosophical or political beliefs (for example, your interest in particular causes), we will only process this with your explicit consent, which you may withdraw at any time.
If we use your personal information outside the purposes listed here, we will seek your consent to do so in advance.
How long we keep your personal information
We normally retain personal data for up to three years after your last active involvement with us, unless you request deletion sooner. Some records may be kept longer where required by law (for example, financial records).
How we share your personal information
We share some of your personal information with organisations in the effective altruism community for the purposes of impact evaluation and facilitating our mission to support you in having a high-impact career (e.g. by recommending you for job opportunities).
We use third party software (e.g. Google Drive, Airtable, GMail) to store electronic copies of personal information.
We may also be subject to a legal requirement (with or without your consent) to share your personal information with the University or a government agency (such as the police or security services or other statutory authorities with investigatory powers) under special circumstances (e.g. relating to tax, crime or health and safety). Where feasible and appropriate, we will notify you of our intention to share such information in advance.

We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to keep your personal information secure. Data is stored on password-protected systems and access is restricted to authorised organisers.
